It’s recent hot play continued for the Lady Spires Saturday.
Following a 9-3 loss, the Saint Mary softball team rebounded with a 4-2 win over visiting Bethany. The victory moved USM to 3-3 in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference, 5-13 overall, and into sole possession of fifth place among the league.
The Lady Spires' weekend win was keyed by Steeli Norton's two-hit, one RBI performance and a complete game from pitcher Victoria Toplikar.
USM will be at Friends today for a 5 p.m. contest.

Lady Rams drop two games
Two good starts for the Pleasant Ridge softball team could not be capped off with victories Monday.
The Lady Rams held a 3-0 lead in game one at McLouth before the home team posted 13 runs over the last three innings to take a 13-3 decision. Game two saw an early 1-0 PR advantage turn into a 16-1 defeat.
“The scores don't reflect how they played,” PR coach Chris Robinson said. “We began real well in both and showed good competitiveness, but let a lot of little things build up against us.”
In game one, Abby Reed went 2-2 while Shayanne Robinson recorded a two-run RBI double and Alyssa Krook snatched a RBI as well. Ashly Lingenselser hit in Reed in the first inning.
PR will host Doniphan West Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
