Leavenworth, Immaculata both compete at singles meet in Bonner Springs
For the Bonner Springs Invite, the Leavenworth and Immaculata boys' tennis teams needed to send just two participants.
Pioneer Michael Rielly got the nod for the No. 1 singles bracket while Josh Bernard was tabbed for the No. 2 singles bracket. Raider Andy Eom was Imac's No. 1 player with Sam Rhee at No. 2.
Rielly finished the day going 1-2. He lost 8-0 to Mill Valley, was defeated 8-7 (8-6) by Paola but took down Gardner 8-7 (12-10).
Bernard was 0-3 after falling to Mill Valley 8-0, Paola 8-3 and Gardner 8-1.
“They got up to the net quite a bit and Michael was able to put a lot of pressure on his opponents,” LV coach Shad Langfoss said. “I know losing that first tiebreaker bothered him, but he played well.”
Leavenworth will host Olathe Northwest at 3:30 p.m.
Immaculata saw Eom go 0-3 on the day, losing to DeSoto 8-6, Bonner Springs 8-6 and Maranatha 8-4.
Rhee finished 3-1 and in third place, beating Blue Springs 8-1, Maranatha 8-4 and Gardner 8-6. He lost to DeSoto 8-3.
“Overall, Andy played some very good points and games throughout all three matches,” Imac coach Manuel Hernandez said. “However, it was the lack of solid footwork and the unforced errors that enabled Andy's opponents to take the wins.”
“Sam played well throughout his matches and he is definitely improving every day and every match.”
The Raiders will be back at Bonner Springs Thursday for a 3:30 p.m. meet.
