  • On Saturday, the Leavenworth High Baseball team hosted the Second Annual Chris Naething JV baseball tournament at Sportsfield.
The Pioneers hosted the tournament for two reasons: to offer our young baseball players the opportunity to compete in a competitive format tournament; and to celebrate and remember the life of Chris Naething.
Chris Naething defined the essence of spring baseball. She was your typical American baseball mom. She loved to come the park to watch her son Ben play.
She always carried a smile and was the first to volunteer to do all the things that I ask of our parents to help make their sons baseball experience at Leavenworth High a memorable one.
Her son Ben played for Leavenworth High in 2010 and 2011 and was the winning pitcher in the 2011 regional championship game that sent the Pioneers to the state tournament for the first time in 12 years.
Chris was a great wife, mother and the truest of true American baseball fan. Around $1,000 was received in donations, which will in turn be donated to The Caring Bridge Cancer Research and Assistance Foundation.
In first round tournament action, Leavenworth defeated Lansing and Winnetonka defeated Pleasant Ridge. Lansing then defeated Pleasant Ridge in the consolation game to finish in third place.
The Pioneers would go on to beat Winnetonka in the championship game, claiming first in this year’s tournament.
The players and coaches would like to thank everyone that made donations, worked the tournament, and helped to make it a great tournament overall.
