    1. Can you tell us about the Candle Queen Candles Queen's 5k Romp that Candle Queen Candles Gift Boutique is sponsoring including date, time, location, and who can participate? What route will the Romp take?
The Queen's 5K Romp will take place on Sunday, April 14 at 8 a.m. with the Start and Finish Line being at Candle Queen Candles, 500 Shawnee.
The loop course heads south on Shawnee to Cherokee where runners turn right for one block and then left on 6th Street followed by another right on Short Street. From Short Street the runners enter the 3 Mile Creek Trail and exit the trail on Esplanade. The route continues north on Esplanade. Runners made a flip turn on Esplanade near Kickapoo Street and then go back the same route they just ran returning to the Finish Line. We have closed registration at 800 participants! We are thrilled for everyone of those lovely ladies who may choose to run, walk or wag (run/walk combo)! We want to honor who they are and do what you can do on race day! The Romp is just the starting point for many and we hope the love of running will inspire those 800 to keep running and keep their active lifestyle.
    2. How did the idea for a ladies' only race come about and how does the event promote a healthy lifestyle?
Last August while developing the Leavenworth Race Series with Leavenworth Parks & Recreation Director, Julie Anderson and other local race directors, we discussed the execution of a Ladies only running event in Leavenworth. Ladies only events are very popular format for promoting healthy lifestyle and supporting a charity event. All attending that meeting endorsed the idea of the local event and offered their expertise to the creation of a Ladies Run. We know the "Glitter of the Romp" has already inspired many to challenge themselves physically.
The Romp celebrates girlfriends, health and families. We created a Princess category for those 18 and under and offered them half price registration! We want mommies and their daughters being healthy and having fun together. We want our runners to bring their families to watch them on the course and celebrate with them at the Finish line! It is so fun to see someone cross the finish line. Many of our runners are new to organized racing. We know they are going to love it all the way down to their hot pink racing bib numbers.
    3. Participants are encouraged to wear glitter, tulle tutus and tiaras. What inspired the glamorous princess theme?
Candle Queen Candles is the title sponsor of the Romp. The store, owned by local resident and glamorous, Stacy McCowen, is the ideal title sponsor for the Romp as it is so over the top Bling-y and Girl-y. The shop is truly geared to the fun and feminine side of being female. We partnered the personality of Stacy's store with the 5K and have created a very unique and fun event for Leavenworth.
Page 2 of 2 - The Romp offers a strong traditional road race with challenging course, accurate timing and local racing. It also pairs this with the fun and funk of Candle Queen Candles. All runners will be handed a Tiara at the start line. All finisher's receive a custom "Queen's" medal. Of course, as you noted there will be lots of hot pink tutus donned over running tights!
    4. What charity will the 5k Romp benefit and why were they chosen?
The Leavenworth County Relay for Life, American Cancer Society is the benefit charity. It was selected for multiple reasons. First, most have friends or relatives that have experienced cancer and can easily relate to this known charity and the benefits it offers to fight cancer. Second and more personally, a very dear friend and special lady,
Barbara Inch lost her battle to cancer last winter. The Inch family spent multiple years at Fort. Leavenworth and Barbara was a friend to many. As we raise funds for Relay for Life we are also honoring our friendship with the Inch family.
    5. What sort of post-race vendors will there be on hand?
First, we have vendors on hand to make our spectators happy! We have Garcia's Mexican Food offering Breakfast Burritos! Other food vendors are Café Chilingo and a Funnel Cake Truck! A La Carte Catering will be providing Sparkling Pink Lemon-ade to the runners. Several fitness oriented businesses will be present: Genesis Health Clubs and Trimfitness, an independent Advocare distributor. The Five Trails Half Marathon & 10K will also be onsite offering post run nourishment to runners.
Kinetico of Kansas City, which is owned by local business J. F. Denney Plumbing, will be there with its Water Farm providing cold water to runners after their 3.1 miles!
Several "boutique" vendors will have their products on display and for sale. Most of our race sponsors – Bella Vita Salon & Spa, Home Base Businesses of Ft. Leavenworth, Preferred Physical Therapy, Leavenworth County Humane Society, Luxury & Imports, Hackworth Family Eye Care, Vault Denim, Sideline Chic, and nationally known See Jane Run, will be represented on Sunday morning. Several "Boutique" vendors will have their products on display and for sale: Hammered Sisters, Kern Creations, and Being a Creative Mom. Sagasu Family Martial Arts will be bringing their Bounce house and other fun things for the kids.
