Local residents will have the opportunity this weekend to bid on a number of auction items, including getaway packages, while benefiting the Leavenworth Regional Catholic School System.
The annual Greenway Auction will be held Saturday at McGilley Field House on the University of Saint Mary campus, 4100 S. Fourth St.
"It's the biggest fundraiser of the year for the Catholic school system," said McKayla Moore, development director for the schools.
She said event typically raises more than $100,000 each year. The money supports Xavier Catholic School and Immaculata High School.
This will be the 35th year for the Greenway Auction. This year's theme is "The Price is Right for Catholic Education."
The event will feature silent and live auctions as well as a buffet.
Moore said there are more than 525 items that will be up for auction Saturday including artwork, jewelry and gifts made by students.
"We have a wine tour," she said.
There also will be the Fund-A-Need program, which raises money for a specific project. This year, Fund-A-Need is raising money for a technology upgrade for Xavier, according to the Greenway Auction catalog.
The doors to the field house will open at 5 p.m. for the Greenway Auction. The silent auction also will begin at that time. The buffet will begin at 6 p.m. The live auction will start at 8 p.m.
Moore said tickets purchased in advance are $25. Tickets purchased at the door at $30. Advanced tickets can be purchased by contacting the Catholic schools' administration office at 682-7801 or stopping by the office, which is located at 320 N. Broadway.
She said advance tickets can be purchased until noon Friday at the administration office. After that, school officials will be at McGilley Field House until 4 p.m. Friday, and people can stop by there to purchase tickets.
