  • A parade of hits led the Pleasant Ridge softball team to its first two victories of 2013.
On Monday, the Lady Rams vanquished visiting Riverside 16-1and then 14-4 to push its season record to 2-4.
“Our defense was great with no errors tonight,” PR coach Chris Robinson said. “Our offense actually settled down and was selective at the plate, which allowed us to hit the ball well. And our pitching was real good tonight.”
In the first game, Cheyenne Owens tossed a complete, five-inning game while striking out six. Shayanne Robinson led the squad at the plate with a 4-for-4 outing.
During the second bout, Sarah Wagner sat down five in a complete, five-inning game pitching performance. She also went 3-for-3 offensively, as did Ashly Lingenselser.
Ridge will look to continue its hot streak today when it travels to Hiawatha for a 4:30 p.m. contest.
Saint Mary streaks to fourth straight
The Lady Spires are picking a good time to get hot.
With the regular season's end a mere two weeks away, the Saint Mary softball team is in the midst of its longest win streak of the year (four games).
On Saturday, the club topped visiting McPherson 2-1 and 14-6, and thus now finds itself tied for fifth in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference at 5-5. USM is 9-15 overall.
The team's next contest is 4 p.m. Wednesday at Tabor College, who is just above them in the conference table.
    Raiders lose two to ACCHS
It was double the trouble for Immaculata softball Monday.
First, the Lady Raiders lost 18-0 to ACCHS and then dropped a 16-4 result in the second contest.
"We are young and still growing,” Imac coach George Johnson said. “A positive was that we didn't have a whole lot of errors. They simply hit the ball where we weren't.”
Immaculata will host Maur-Hill Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
    Leavenworth struggles at Olathe North
On Friday, the Leavenworth softball team lost twice to Olathe Northwest by the same score ―15-0.
The Lady Pioneers, 0-10, will host Bonner Springs today at 4 p.m.
