  • A late-inning loss to Bonner Springs Tuesday rejuvenated the Lady Lions softball team.
After watching an 8-7 result slip through its fingers, Lansing bounced back in game two for an 11-8 victory over its hosts.
“Obviously, they didn't like that feeling after the first game,” Lansing coach Valerie Chapple said of her team. “I was happy with how they responded. They were motivated in every inning and with both games going back and forth, I was really pleased to see their focus.”
McKenzie Hersh  suffered the first game loss while Shannon Daze nailed down the victory in the second contest.
“Offensively, everybody hit the ball hard today,” Chapple said. “I was especially happy with Mikayla Zielinski, who did a great job leading off for us in both games.”
On Monday, the team swept Turner 13-2 and 8-7 in a rescheduled doubleheader.
Lansing, 3-5, will be at Blue Valley North Friday for a 4:30 p.m. contest.
Lady Rams' bats explode for wins
Thirty-seven runs. That is how many times the Pleasant Ridge softball team scored Tuesday at Hiawatha, and they nearly needed every one.
The first game was a blow out, PR spanking its hosts 20-0 as Cheyenne Owens allowed just three hits.
In the second contest, Ridge entered the final frame down four before erupting for eight runs. The squad then held on for the 17-13 victory.
“They battled back hard and never gave up,” PR coach Chris Robinson said. “It was cold, windy and they could've just gave up, but they didn't and it was great to see.”
Pleasant Ridge, 4-4, will play at Immaculata at 4:30 p.m. Monday.
    Lady Pioneers lose twice
The Leavenworth softball team had its record drop to 0-12 Tuesday following two losses at Olathe South.
In game one, the Lady Pioneers fell 10-0 and 16-1. Layne Broeker accrued both pitching losses.
The squad will host Shawnee Mission Northwest Thursday at 4:15 p.m.
