  • The Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth mourn the loss of Sister Margaret Pfennigs, (formerly Mary Teresita), 94, who died on April 14, 2013 at Ross Hall, Mother House, Leavenworth, Kan.
    Margaret Lena Pfennigs was born in Billings, Mont. on November 11, 1918, second of six children of Fred (Ferdinand) and Elsie Waldner Pfennigs. She graduated from Kate Fratt Memorial School and Billings Public High School, Billings, Mont. Margaret entered the religious community of the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth on August 29, 1938 and, as Sister Mary Teresita, made her profession of vows on March 2, 1940, later returning to the use of her baptismal name.
    Sister Margaret received her R. N. from Providence Hospital in KCK and specialty training as an X-ray technician in Chicago. She served 32 years in hospitals in the SCL Health System mostly as a medical-surgical supervisor, and 10 years as a patient visitor. Sister retired to Ross Hall in February 1994.
    Survivors include her brother, William J. (Carol) Pfennigs, Great Falls, Mont.; nieces, nephews, friends, and her SCL community.
    A vigil will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday, April 22 in Ross Chapel of the Sisters of Charity Mother House in Leavenworth, where friends may call after 4 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Ross Chapel at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 23. Interment will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery on the Mother House grounds. R. L. Leintz Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth Retirement Fund, 4200 S. 4th St., Leavenworth, KS 66048.
