This years' festival will be generally contained within Haymarket Square showcasing local music entertainment and festival food on Friday night.
Saturday activities will continue with music and food and include artisans, re-enactors, demonstrations, games, Outhouse Races and an interactive Jail, all within a "western and historic" theme.
Plans are under way to provide something of a "western trail" that leads throughout downtown to encourage attendees to visit many downtown businesses, especially those that commit to being a part of the festival with store window displays, western or period dress, possibly a retail presence outside their business during the festival and dedication to active social media festival "buzz" leading up to Buffalo Bill Days.
Cricket (Christine Pugh) from Scrivners Creative Center has taken the festival reins, talking to business owners, musicians and artisans. In addition, she and Elena Gann have engaged the community through social media. The popular Outhouse Races will continue and we encourage groups to build an outrageous outhouse and join in the fun.
"Buffalo Bill Days is a celebration of our community. Come learn about our history, hear local music, enjoy food from local restaurants, meet our small business owners and members of our community, learn about our local organizations and groups while having a great time at this western themed heritage event," Pugh said.
Also in the mix, Elena "Star" Gann, owner of Café Chilingo and LMS Board President, is providing support and direction.
"It's exciting to see so much enthusiasm being generated over the upcoming Buffalo Bill Days this year," Gann said. "We have a very supportive community of individuals, businesses and organizations that are each accepting the responsibility for a small piece of the planning and execution. This successful transition from the larger Buffalo Bill Days to this smaller scaled event so far has been a great opportunity to witness the spirit and dedication of our local volunteers and contributors in action."
Leavenworth's Hog Wild West BBQ Contest, a sanctioned KCBS contest, will once again be a part of Buffalo Bill Days on Sept. 13 and 14, with judging, awards and a BBQ tasting on Saturday.
Volunteers are needed to support Buffalo Bill Days and the BBQ, so please contact the Leavenworth Main Street office at 913-682-3924, director@leavenworthmainstreet.com, Cricket@scrivnerscenter.com or Joey@jumpinjoesbbq.com.
