  • Immaculata, Lansing ignore wet conditions to compete in Imac Invite

  • It was wet, cold and muddy Thursday. Not the ideal conditions for a golf meet — or anything else outside for that matter.
Yet, a little bad weather couldn't deter the Raider golf team from hosting its first meet of the season and so the 2013 Immaculata Invitational was held as scheduled.
Six teams competed in the nine-hole competition, including Lansing, yet it was Mill Valley who came out the victors with a score of 178. The Lions received second with a 191, Immaculata third at 248 and Tonganoxie fourth at 252.
Horton and DeSoto did not have enough players to field a full squad.
Twelve individual medalists were honored. Lansing's Daniel Santos won second overall by shooting a 44, followed by teammate Kyle Hallinan at sixth (48), Matt Sullivan at seventh (49) and Zach Martin at ninth (50).
The Raiders had two medal, Dawson Schroeder hitting a 51 for 10th and Jared Kloeker stroking a 56 for 12th.
“Considering the conditions, the scores overall were pretty good,” Imac coach Mike Williams said. “We had two of the kids get medals and it's been a while since we have done that, so I was happy.”
Both squads will again compete with each other at the Osawatomie Invitational Saturday beginning at 9 a.m.
“I was really impressed with Jared,” Williams said. “For his first year of ever playing competitively, he was impressive. If he and the others can keep it up, I don’t see why we can’t compete the rest of the year.”
