  • Facing yet another challenge within its grueling Sunflower League schedule, the Leavenworth softball team hosted Shawnee Mission Northwest Thursday.
During that doubleheader, it was tough sledding for the Lady Pioneers, who dropped both games by the score of 10-0 and 12-1.
Leavenworth will host Shawnee Mission North at 4 p.m. Tuesday.
Lady Rams take two at ACCHS
The Pleasant Ridge softball team continued its winning ways Thursday.
Traveling to ACCHS, the Lady Rams smoked its hosts 20-4 in the first game and then won 13-10 in the second.
“We came out real focused and ready to play and the girls showed that,” PR coach Chris Robinson said. “We let up a little in that second game, but battled through it and got the win.”
Cheyenne Owens was the pitcher of record in game one while Sarah Wagner captured the victory in the second bout.
Robinson highlighted Jordan Adams as his hitter of the day, “She crushed the ball.”
Pleasant Ridge will host Troy Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
    Lansing squeezed by Tonganoxie
In two close road tests, the Lady Lions softball team came up just short.
At Tonganoxie on Thursday, Lansing first suffered an 8-5 defeat and then fell 6-4 in game two.
“We came out flat in that first game,” Lansing coach Valerie Chapple said. “Base running mistakes and just overall execution wasn't there. The second game we played with a lot more heart and smarts, but came up a little bit short.”
Lansing, 3-9, will host Basehor Monday at 4 p.m.
    Immaculata suffers two losses
Missed opportunities and key injuries hobbled the Immaculata softball team Thursday.
Playing at Troy, the Lady Raiders lost 14-1 and 9-1.
“We had a whole bunch of injuries tonight, though the girls kept battling, so I was proud of that,” Imac coach George Johnson said. "We also missed a couple bases-loaded opportunities so that hurt too.”
Immaculata will host Doniphan West Saturday at 9:30 a.m.
