  • Heading into Thursday night's battle against DeSoto, Lansing girls' soccer coach Billy Dillon knew what lie ahead.
“I thought it was going to be a tough game coming in and it sure turned out that way,” he said.
Yet, his Lady Lion squad was up for the challenge. Trailing 1-0 at half, the team answered with two goals three minutes apart to snatch away a 2-1 victory.
“ Our defense played outstanding, keeping them in check for most of the game,” Dillon said. “We just had to clean up some stuff after that first half and when we did, we controlled the ball much better.”
Down a goal, Maddie Stebbins sent in the equalizer during the 51st minute. Three minutes later, Courtney Callahan put Lansing up one with another strike.
“We just kept control after that second goal and like I said, the defense really shined,” Dillon said.
Lansing, 7-3, will host Blue Valley Southwest tonight at 6 p.m.
    Leavenworth downed by SMNW
Seven first half goals put the Leavenworth girls' soccer team in a hole it could not get out of.
Three more Shawnee Mission Northwest tallies in the second half delivered the Lady Pioneers a 10-0 home loss Thursday.
“We are still having a tough time with possessing the ball,” LV coach Ken Lott said.
Leavenworth, 1-8, will host Olathe East at 7 p.m. tonight.
