  • To the editor:
On April 22 and 23, I had the privilege of attending the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College National Security Roundtable, sponsored by the USCGSC Foundation, at the Lewis & Clark Center in Fort Leavenworth.
Through this program, the CGSC and the School of Advanced Military Studies (SAMS) offers those in the business community the opportunity to interact with instructors and soldiers in the School of Advanced Military Studies (SAMS) and to learn about contemporary national security issues.
I am writing simply to express my appreciation for the CGSC's outreach and for the soldiers' allowing us into their classes and exercises. Though I was born and raised in Leavenworth, and always felt that I had a good understanding of the importance of the Fort to the Leavenworth community, the Roundtable program provided me with a greater appreciation for the challenging levels of education being offered at the CGSC and SAMS, and for the professionalism of their respective educators and students.
Presenters spoke of the need to continually work to develop trust between civilian citizens and our Army.
I left the Roundtable program confident in the quality and competence of those soldiers being educated at the CGSC and SAMS, and I would encourage others in the Leavenworth community to also seek out opportunities to engage with our Army's future leaders.
