  • Saturday's DeSoto Wildcat Invitational had a distinct local flavor to it.
Both Lansing and Immaculata competed in the competition, where the Raiders' No. 1 doubles team of James Cha and Phillip Hernandez went 4-0 to win the title.
“It was a big win for us just because it was our first gold medal at DeSoto in 13 years and it included wins over St. James and Shawnee Mission East,” Imac coach Manuel Hernandez said.
The rest of the Immaculata lineup, which included Sam Rhee (No. 1 singles), Adam Habib (No. 2 singles) and Andy Eom/Bader Abboud (No. 2 doubles) went 0-2.
Lansing was led by No. 1 singles player Joe Lorenzen, who earned a 2-2 mark to place 10th. No. 2 singles Thomas Bremser was 1-2, as was the No. 2 doubles duo of Tristan McMahon/Ben Johnson.
No. 1 doubles of Andrew Fodness/Jered Gatson finished 2-2.
“This was our toughest competition to date,” Lansing coach Ed Fenton said.
Both teams will participate in their respective regional tournaments this Saturday.
