  • Whether it was a missed-played ball, or an inning-ending double play, the Leavenworth baseball team just seemed a step off Tuesday.
Try as they might, though, the Pioneers could never shake that funk and lost 7-1 to visiting Shawnee Mission Northwest.
“The difference was us hitting into three double plays early, leaving runners on base late and I really didn't see any fight out of the guys,” LV coach Joe Allison said. “We started flat and never woke up.”
The Cougars plated runs in the second, fourth, fifth and seventh innings while LV got its single run in the sixth. James Gladieux suffered the pitching loss.
Leavenworth, 5-9, will be at Olathe East today for a 5:30 p.m. contest.
“We are still looking for leaders and if you are doing that this late in the season, it's not a good sign,” Allison said. “We have to find some guys who will step up and lead us.”
Rams suffer two tough losses at Troy
The Pleasant Ridge softball team experienced two blow out losses Tuesday.
On the road at Troy, the Rams fell 14-0 and 10-3.
“We didn't pitch it, we didn't hit, we didn't field it,” PR coach Mike Koontz said. “You won’t win a lot if you can’t do those.”
PR recorded its runs thanks to home runs from Brad Yonts and Logan McKinney.
The Rams, 5-7, will be at Valley Falls Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
