  • In its final meet before the Kaw Valley League Championship next week, the Lansing girls' swimming team saw two of its own reach milestones Wednesday.
Competing in the Osawatomie Tournament, Ally Hecht and Carmen Mabee each posted state consideration times in their respective events ― the 500 free and 100 breaststroke.
“Those two are constantly trying to figure out how to make their strokes better,” Lansing coach Mona Hauver said. “Ally is always the first one in and the last out of the water. Carmen is always studying her stroke, either in the pool or at home. That work ethic for both of them is great.”
As a team, Lansing placed fourth overall and had eight swimmers record personal records on the evening.
“It was a very well-rounded meet for us and they all pushed themselves really hard,” Hauver said.
On Tuesday, the Lady Lions competed at Washington where the team earned second.
Notable finishes that Hauver highlighted were Ally Hecht chipping eight seconds off here 500 free and Cynnamon Dill coming within 0.6 seconds of a consideration time in the 50 free.
The Lansing coach also mentioned that all three relay times inched within a second of consideration marks.
“In swimming, like track, a tenth of a second can mean the difference between advancing and going home,” the Lansing coach said. “All of these girls believe it’s within their reach and therefore bring it every single meet.”
The Lady Lions will participate in its league meet on Wednesday.
