  • Though its season concluded on an eight-game losing streak, the Lady Spires softball team received new life this week.
After completing its regular season Saturday with a pair of road losses, 3-2 and 4-1 at Southwestern, Saint Mary found out earlier this week that it would be the seventh seed in this weekend's Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference softball tournament.
With its 5-13 conference mark, 9-23 overall, USM will face No. 2 seed Bethany, who is 14-4 in the KCAC and 28-14 overall. The duo's game is set for Friday at 11 a.m. in Hutchinson.
Depending on whether the Lady Spires win or lose will determine when they play next in the double-elimination tournament. Round one and two will be held Friday, weather permitting.
    The competition will concluded Saturday.
