On May 12, mothers throughout the Leavenworth/Lansing area will celebrate Mother's Day. It does not have to be a holiday that costs a fortune. I will tell you some of the simplest and least expensive gifts mean the most to me.
One of my favorite presents I ever received on Mother's Day was truly something simple and inexpensive. However, to me it made me feel like a million dollars. A few years ago, my husband was deployed and my daughter was scared that I would go without a present for Mother's Day. So she truly worked hard on a present to make sure that I did not go without.
The best gift I ever received consisted of two pieces of plywood, a permanent marker and yellow duct tape. My daughter wrote on the two pieces of plywood her sentiments to me and then duck taped them together. I remember that the gift and the thought that went behind it brought me to tears. Several years later, I still have that gift.
So I would encourage readers to remember that you do not have to break the bank to make your mother feel like a million bucks this Mother's Day. If you have young children, help them to make a handmade card. Another great gift idea is to make a coupon book to give to mom to help alleviate some of her chores around the house. Breakfast in bed is another special treat. My family has a special habit of making me feel like I am truly a queen for the day without breaking the bank.
I would encourage readers to take the time and effort to make their mothers feel special this year. Readers, it is the gift from the heart that means far more to moms than the money you spend.
