Though Friday's weather did not embody a traditional May day, the Leavenworth and Lansing boys' tennis teams still had a regional tournament to compete in.
At the pair's Class 5A regional meet, hosted by Topeka Seaman, both squads failed to advance anyone out of the first round.
For Leavenworth, singles players Ben Schatzel and Nick Valledor both lost 6-0, 6-0. In doubles action, Michael Rielly/Austin Wiley suffered a 6-0, 6-3 defeat and Garett Seeger/Wesley Barbee were dropped 6-4, 6-4.
“Garett and Wesley were right with the team from Topeka West, but just couldn't close it out,” LV coach Shad Langfoss said.
Lansing saw singles player Joe Lorenzen put together the team's best performance before falling 6-3, 7-5.
“Joe had our best match of the day,” Lansing coach Ed Fenton said. “If he puts in the work this offseason like he did last year, he'll have a really good shot at qualifying for state.”
Bailey Miller was the Lions other singles competitor and lost 6-0, 6-0. In doubles play, Ben Johnson/Jered Gatson were defeated 6-2, 6-1 while Thomas Bremser/Tristan McMahan were tripped up 6-1, 6-0.
“Our doubles teams both won games, which is something to build on for next year, since all four of our doubles players will be returning,” Fenton said.
