  • A rural Leavenworth man was arrested after he allegedly fled from the scene of a crash and later led officers on a foot chase, a police spokesman said.
The car accident was reported at 2:04 p.m. Friday at Shrine Park and Muncie roads.
The 24-year-old suspect allegedly rear-ended a vehicle and then drove from the scene. He was driving a 1994 Oldsmobile sedan. No injuries were reported, according to Maj. Dan Nicodemus, deputy chief of the Leavenworth Police Department.
Someone reported to the police that the suspect had parked the Oldsmobile sedan in the 800 block of Homestead Street. Police located the vehicle but not the suspect.
The vehicle does not belong to the suspect but Nicodemus said police were able to determine who had last used the car.
About two hours after the accident, someone reported seeing the suspect walking on 10th Avenue.
An officer found the suspect on 10th Avenue south of Limit Street. When the officer attempted to make contact, the suspect allegedly fled, heading west through several yards. He then headed east and crossed 10th Avenue.
"At one point, we had several officers chasing him on foot," Nicodemus said.
The suspect was apprehended in the 300 block of Shrine Park Road. He had suspected drugs and drug paraphernalia at the time he was taken into custody, according to Nicodemus.
The suspect was arrested for allegations of obstruction, leaving the scene of an accident and failing to a report an accident to police.
