In his 13 years as Immaculata boys' tennis coach, Manuel Hernandez may not have experienced a better day than the one he had on Monday.
“What a great day for Immauclata High School and our tennis program,” the Raiders coach said. “The team placed second, the first regional team plaque in my 13 years of coaching.”
After first-place Kansas City Christian, Imac edged out Marysville by two points to secure the runner-up position. Enabling that achievement was the doubles team of James Cha and Phillip Hernandez, who went 3-1 and took the silver medal.
Same Rhee was the other Raider to place and qualify for state. He also finished 3-1 and received the fifth-place medal in the singles bracket.
Adam Habib in singles action and Andy Eom/Bader Habib in doubles action went 0-1.
“Indeed it was a great day for Imac tennis,” Hernandez said. “The great thing is that we are a young team...We'll be back even stronger next year and have our sights set on that first-place plaque.”
The Class 3-1A state tournament will begin on Friday.
