Marla Jolene “Jody” (Hoopes) Buchanan, 62, of Lansing passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, May 8, 2013.
Marla Jolene "Jody" (Hoopes) Buchanan, 62, of Lansing passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, May 8, 2013. Jody was born in Ellsworth, Kan., on March 18, 1951, to Dale and Edna (Mohesky) Hoopes.
Jody grew up in Leavenworth, the second of five girls. She attended Immaculata High School and graduated in 1969. She married her high school sweetheart, John Lemke and they brought into the world four children, Julie, Jennifer, Jason & Joel. She later received her nursing license and was a practicing LPN. She worked at St. John Hospital and various convalescent homes throughout Leavenworth County until her forced retirement from Ross Hall Mother House in November, 2012 due to illness. Jody made many sacrifices in life and the most important was her children. She loved and adored her children and her surrogate children or anyone in need. She gave up her free time to work extra shifts to provide for them. She took great pride in caring for the retired Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth. She had a special mission to let no one die alone.
Jody loved to garden and can the harvest. She crocheted in her spare time and had a great talent for art. She enjoyed nothing more than having her family around for food and fun. Marla Jolene will always be remembered as a devoted mother, sister, grandma (Nan) and friend with no words to describe how much she will be missed.
She is preceded in death by her parents and older sister, Darla Chambers.
Survivors include her children, Julie (Steven) Horosko, Jennifer Perry, Jason (Chandra) Lemke, and Joel Lemke; her former husbands, John Lemke and Kenneth Buchanan; her siblings, Connie (Rob) Mundt of Lansing, Tonya (Matt) Bosworth of Pacific Grove, Calif.; and Kelli (Steven) Frueh of Lexington, Ky.; and her grandchildren, Brock, Corey, Andrew, Darian, Damien, Kody, Cheyann, Jared, Joseph, Jacob, Layla Samantha, Austin and Alyssa.
A celebration of life will be from 10 a.m. to noon, Monday, May 13, 2013, at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home. All family and friends are welcome. Memorials can be made in her honor to Kansas City Hospice & Palliative Care or Immaculata High School.
