  • Track: Rams, Raiders fight for league title

  • In the accumulation of its 2013 regular season, the Immaculata and Pleasant Ridge track and field teams competed for a league title Thursday.
    Running at Effingham, the biggest outcome from the Delaware Valley League meet was the Lady Rams taking third overall with 77 points. The Lady Raiders came in 14th while Jefferson County North placed first.
    “That was the highest number of points and the best team finish at league in a long time,” PR coach Glenda Connelly said. “The girls were motivated to work extremely hard this week during practice and it showed with all the personal records.”
    The top PR finishes were Oleta McCaully snatching gold in the javelin, Syvannah Williams racing to silver in the 300 hurdles and Haley Worthington getting second in the javelin.
    Williams also placed third in the 100 hurdles and Bailey Swinford jumped to third in the triple jump.
    All three of the team's relay squads secured silver medals.
    Immaculata was paced by Sarah O'Neil getting fourth in the 100 hurdles and seventh in the 300 hurdles.
    In the boys' division, Ridge accumulated 52 points for fifth while Imac recorded a 11th place finish. JCN was No. 1 overall.
    “I thought we did very well for the numbers that we took,” Imac coach Terry Jordan said. “I thought Drew ran very well before he got a little twinge late. Danny ran excellent as did Sarah for the girls.”
    Ram runner Tony Weber sped to gold in the 3,200 meters and second in the 1,600 meters.
    Kyle Lansing  won second in the triple jump while Matt Smith was fourth in the 100 meters.
    Immaculata's Danny Boisson placed second in the 400 meters, Mark Hernandez was fifth in the high jump and Sachen raced to fifth in the 100 meters and sixth in the 200 meters.
    Pleasant Ridge's regional meet is 3 p.m. Friday at Silver Lake while Immaculata's regional is 3:30 p.m. Friday at Yates Center.
