  • It was a dominating, yet fruitless, first half Tuesday for the Lady Lions soccer team.
Hosting Emporia in the pair's opening round matchup of the Class 5A regional tournament, Lansing smothered its visitors from the start.
However, the squad had nothing to show for it after 40 minutes of play as with the scoreboard showed just zeros.
“We didn't really make any changes at half,” Lansing coach Billy Dillon said. “We just knew that we needed to clean up our passes in the attacking third and finish off our shots.”
The hands-off approach worked out as the Lady Lions struck quickly in the second half. Courtney Callahan booted in a strike one minute in and then Tara Bolewski added insurance nearly 20 minutes later.
The rest was cake for the home squad, who used the 2-0 victory to advance into the next round of the  tourney.
The Lions will host the winner of Shawnee Heights versus Washington at 6 p.m. Friday.
“It was just a matter of finishing and once we found that, we put the game away,” Dillon said.
