The best way to celebrate with chocolate chip cookies. I have a scrumptious recipe given to me by my mother-in-law. Carol was the best cookie maker ever! Her cookies were not too hard, not too soft. The secret? Use half butter and half shortening. She was also the best at dropping the cookie dough on the cookie sheet in perfect rounds using two teaspoons. Me? I can only accomplish a perfectly round cookie by using a scoop.
Several years ago I arrived home from work to the the smell of freshly baked chocolate chip cookies. My son had attempted to make a batch of grandma's cookies. The cookies were lined on the cooling rack ready for the taste test. I bit into the warm cookie and was overwhelmed. The chocolate chips melted in my mouth, the buttery flavor was light and there was just a hint of vanilla. My son had captured his grandmother's recipe perfectly, even better than me the self-proclaimed restaurant owner and baker!
To this very day I am thrilled when my son bakes a batch of grandma's chocolate chip cookies. In addition to baking a scrumptious cookie, he has conquered the perfectly rounded shape (using a cookie scoop). Grandma's legacy lives on.
