  • After capturing the 2013 regular season Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference championship, Saint Mary men's basketball head coach Jon Bishop and his coaching staff were honored on April 5 at the NABC Hillyard Champions Luncheon in Atlanta.
The luncheon is an annual banquet held during the National Association of Basketball Coaches convention in conjunction with the Final Four.
Bishop and his staff were recognized along with every regular season conference basketball champion from both the NAIA and NCAA divisions.
The University of Saint Mary Spires won the school’s second ever KCAC regular season championship this season posting a 16-2 record in league play.
The team qualified for their second consecutive NAIA Division II National Tournament and finished with an record of 22-9.
Bishop was named the 2013 KCAC Coach of the Year and in just his fifth season won his 100th career game with a victory against Southwestern College on Feb. 16.
“It was an honor to represent the KCAC as well as the University of Saint Mary at the Champions Luncheon while we were at the NABC coaching convention this year,” said head coach Jon Bishop.
“To end the year sitting in that room is a great feeling. It recognizes your staff on a special season and that’s very rewarding knowing how hard it is to win a championship in our league.”
