  • The Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth mourn the loss of Sister Agnes Ann Kneib, 89, who died on Wed., May 15, 2013 in Ross Hall at the SCL Mother House in Leavenworth, Kan. She served the People of God as a Sister of Charity for 63 years.
    Elizabeth Leona Kneib was born on Jan. 20, 1924 in St. Joseph, Mo., the youngest of eight children born to Leo and Anna Regina Fisher Kneib. She graduated from Riverside Grade School and Convent of the Sacred Heart High School in St. Joseph. After attending Business College and working for eight years, first at Whitaker Cable Soldering and then in the office at Sun Manufacturing, Elizabeth entered the religious community of the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth on Aug. 18, 1949 and, as Sister Agnes Ann, made her profession of vows on Aug. 15, 1951.
    Sister Agnes Ann taught school for two years. For the next 55 years she engaged in the health care ministry, working in the business offices of several hospitals in the SCL Health System. From 1965-1977 Sister Agnes Ann served as the administrator at Mount St. Joseph Home for the Aging in KCK. She continued to work with the elderly in pastoral care and as a patient visitor until she retired to the Mother House in 2008. Sister received a B.S. in General Administration from Saint Mary College, Leavenworth, Kan. and was granted a Skilled Nursing Home Licensure.
    Survivors include her brother Robert (Donna) of Easton, Mo.; nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and her SCL Community.
    A vigil will be held at 7 p.m. on Sunday, May 19 in Ross Chapel of the Sisters of Charity Mother House in Leavenworth where friends may call after 4 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Ross Chapel at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, May 20. Interment will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery on the Mother House grounds. Davis Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth Retirement Fund, 4200 S 4th St, Leavenworth, KS 66048.
