Retired Lt. Col. Jay Farwell, 63, of Leavenworth, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Thursday, May 16, 2013.
Retired Lt. Col. Jay Farwell, 63, of Leavenworth, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Thursday, May 16, 2013. Jay was born in Burlington, Colo., on May 5, 1950, to Lester and Betty (Chalfant) Farwell.
Jay graduated from the University of Colorado. He was commissioned an officer in the United States Army in1974, through the ROTC program. He served over 25 years on Active Duty. During that time he toured in Korea, Kuwait and twice in Germany. Jay most recently worked as a contractor with Combat Training Center Directorate.
He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Linda Farwell; a daughter, Jennifer Farwell; a son, Jason Farwell; mother, Betty Farwell; two brothers, Lester (Cecily) Farwell and Bruce (Mary) Farwell; two sisters, Mary (Dale) Fischbeck and Nancy Farwell; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
Jay leaves behind many friends and colleagues made through his volunteerism with Boy Scouts, Pioneer Chapel, Rod and Gun Club, and Skeet Club.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Monday, May 20, 2013 at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home. A funeral will begin at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, at the Pioneer Chapel, Ft. Leavenworth. Burial with full military honors will be at Leavenworth National Cemetery at 11 a.m. A reception will follow at the Pioneer Chapel.
