  • Letter: Thrift store donation went to employee

  • So you think you are doing something good by donating items to the local thrift store.

  • To the editor:
So you think you are doing something good by donating items to the local thrift store. You are hoping they will sell well and the group this store is supposed to support will make money for them.
But imagine your surprise when you walk into the store a few days later and the person working behind the counter has the outfit on that you just donated.
Later, you learn that at some thrift stores, employees and management get first crack at donated items.
I don't feel this is right. Where does the money go? I asked an employee where the money goes and their reply was "Lady I wish I knew. I have the same question, but can't get an answer."
So do thrift stores really help out the group they say or are they just a ripoff making money for someone else?
Next time I think my donation will go to a group who gives out the items free to people.
