  • Two people were taken to the hospital after a sport utility vehicle and a moped collided in north Leavenworth, a police spokesman said.
The accident was reported at 7:35 a.m. Monday at 10th Street and Metropolitan Avenue.
A 45-year-old Leavenworth woman had been traveling north on 10th Street in a Dodge Journey. She reportedly attempted to make a left turn onto Metropolitan Avenue and failed to yield to a moped that was traveling east on Metropolitan, according to Maj. Dan Nicodemus, deputy chief of the Leavenworth Police Department.
The 44-year-old Leavenworth woman who was operating the moped was taken to the hospital for a neck injury. She had been wearing a helmet.
The driver of the Dodge Journey was transported to the hospital for head, neck and leg injuries. She had been wearing her seat belt at the time of the crash, according to Nicodemus.
She was cited by police for allegedly failing to yield the right of way to the moped.
