  • The University of Saint Mary men's basketball team announced Thursday that Isaiah Anaekwe had signed a letter of intent to play for the Spires next year.
He will join the team as a junior next season. Anaekwe, a 6-foot-5-inch forward, is a transfer from Cloud County Community College where he played this past season averaging four points and 3.5 rebounds per game.
“Isaiah came highly recommended to our program by a guy that I really respect in this business in coach Eshbaugh,” USM head coach Jon Bishop said. "He knew we were looking for a player that could bring versatility and toughness to our team and Isaiah will certainly do that."
Originally from Shawnee, Anaekwe played at Penn Valley Community College as a freshman after completing a prep career at Mill Valley High School where he averaged nine points and 14.2 rebounds per game as a senior.
“I like the toughness that Isaiah can bring to our team next season,” Bishop said. “He has a really high basketball IQ and can do a lot of different things but I think defensively he gives us a presence that we lacked at times this year.”
