  • Robert Joseph Hrabak, 81, formerly of Leavenworth, Kan., died June 11, 2013 at Aldersgate in Topeka, Kan.

  • Robert Joseph Hrabak, 81, formerly of Leavenworth, Kan., died June 11, 2013 at Aldersgate in Topeka, Kan. Robert was born on September 10, 1931, in Chelsea, IA to Foster J and Esther E (Kaloupek) Hrabak.
    Robert married Vera Mae Chase on August 14, 1954, in Elk Point, S.D.
    Robert's' family moved from Chelsea to Fort Dodge, IA in 1939. He graduated from Fort Dodge High School in 1949 where he also attended Fort Dodge Junior College. In 1959 he received a BS in Geology from Iowa State University.
    Robert served in the USAF during the Korean War from July 1951 to July 1955.
    In 1964 he became the Director of Leavenworth Regional Planning Commission, also serving from 1964 to 1982 as the Planning Director for the City of Leavenworth, Planning Director for Leavenworth County, Advisor to Leavenworth Urban Renewal Board, Director of City of Leavenworth Community Renewal Program, and Planning Staff- Advisor to participating small cities in Leavenworth County, Executive Director of Leavenworth Regional Planning Commission and Division of Planning and Zoning of Leavenworth County.
    Robert was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, three sons, a daughter and their spouses. Robert J (Jr) and Trudy Hrabak, Bolivar Mo, Ronald R. and Michelle Hrabak, Collierville, Tenn., Bruce A and Melodie Hrabak, Grapevine, TX, James and Pamela (Hrabak) Beach of Topeka Kan., 12 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Also surviving are brother Richard and wife Susan Hrabak and sister and husband Barbara and Fran Long all of Fort Dodge, IA and many nieces and nephews.
    The family will receive friends from 3-4 p.m., Friday, June 14, 2013 at the First United Methodist Church, 5th and Chestnut, Leavenworth, KS 66048, followed by a Memorial Service in Robert's honor at 4 p.m., at the church.
