For the eighth time in this young Legion season, Leavenworth's two area squads — Geiger Ready-Mix and LV Diamond Jaxx — clashed at Sportsfield.
And for the eighth straight time, the Jaxx came away with a victory.
On Wednesday, starting pitcher Michael Johnson paced the Jaxx to a 7-1 win over its area rival.
“Having played nine games in five days, we were definitely short on pitching,” Jaxx coach Zak Knapp said. “So to have Michael come out and do what he did today was big.”
Johnson tossed a complete game, wherein he allowed just one run, to snag the decision. For Geiger, Caleb Cribb suffered the pitching loss.
“He has two different types of fastballs and a really weird curveball that people aren't used to,” Knapp said of Johnson. “He is just a different type of pitcher than the others we have and tonight he was awesome.”
Offensively, the Jaxx posted runs in every inning save for the second frame. Judson Cole got on three times and scored each time while James Gladieux crossed home plate twice. Geiger received its lone run in the fifth.
