  • To the editor:
The Lansing Historical Society hosted its On the Run 5K on June 9. This fundraiser, which benefits the proposed Kansas Regional Prisons Museum could not be conducted if not for the local businesses and individuals taking pride in the community by sponsoring this event.
Sponsors this year were Citizens Savings & Loan Assoc., Lansing Veterinary Hospital, Exchange National Bank & Trust, Vision Interiors, R.L. Leintz Funeral Home, Anytime Fitness, Bob & Terri Ulin, Lansing Lumber Company, Geiger Ready-Mix, Butler's Muffler & Brake, Caraway Printing Co., Young Sign Co., Davis Funeral Chapel, Advantage Printing, Country Club Bank, Virginia McQuillan, Jay Carter DC-Lansing Chiropractic Clinic, and Mike Nielsen. Also, the Lansing Historical Society wants to thank the 71 run/walk participants that supported the event.
The success of this event depends totally on the help of many volunteers. The Lansing Police Department provided a vehicle to lead the run/walk through the historic grounds of the Lansing Correctional Facility and another to monitor traffic on the route, and the Pilot Knob Radio Club provided course monitors. Without these volunteers and the many Lansing Historical Society member volunteers, the event would not be possible.
The Lansing Historical Society again wants to sincerely thank the above listed sponsors and volunteers along with these local businesses and individuals that provided door prizes and coupons-– Petro Deli, TSC, American Energy Products, Inc., Bob Riese, Mary Lou Allen, Laura Phillippi, Hardees, Daylight Doughnuts, Speedway Chrysler/Dodge and Persnippity Hair Salon.
