  • A minimum security inmate from the Lansing Correctional Facility reported missing Monday night is still at large, a spokesman for the Kansas Department of Corrections said Tuesday morning.
Jeremy Barclay confirmed that 43-year-old Paul Dean Cohagen was still missing after being reported on “unauthorized leave” and then put on escape status about 5:10 p.m. Monday evening.
“I don't have any updates this morning,” Barclay said just after 9 a.m. “He's still on the same status.”
Cohagen, who was also known to use the alias “Paul Buck” according to KDOC records, is described as a white male, 6 feet tall and weighing 163 pounds, with hazel eyes and brown hair.
He was scheduled to be released Nov. 22, 2013, on his most recent sentence, stemming from an Aug. 2011 Osage County vehicle burglary offense. KDOC records indicated Cohagen had been in and out of the Kansas correctional system since 1992 for various burglary, forgery and theft charges, mostly in Shawnee County.
Cohagen was in housed in the minimum security at LCF and was allowed to move from that wing to the main facility.
“He had a plumbing job,” at LCF, Barclay said.
Barclay said Cohagen is not considered armed and dangerous, but he still urged caution by those who may come in contact with him.
“I'd hate to downplay it,” he said. “I'd hesitate for anyone to approach an escaped inmate.”
Anyone who does come into contact with Cohagen is encouraged to call 911, LCF at 913-727-3235 or the Kansas Bureau of Investigation at 785-296-8200.
