  • A man was arrested after allegedly stabbing his pregnant ex-girlfriend several times Tuesday in Leavenworth, a police spokesman said.
The woman was treated at a hospital for injuries that were not considered life-threatening. Maj. Dan Nicodemus, deputy chief of the Leavenworth Police Department, said to his knowledge, the injuries didn't cause complications to the woman's pregnancy.
The incident was reported at 5:53 p.m. Tuesday outside of a convenience store at 501 Limit St. The 26-year-old suspect reportedly approached his estranged girlfriend, who's also 26 years old.
"He began yelling at her," Nicodemus said.
The suspect then went to his car and retrieved a knife. He returned to the victim and allegedly stabbed her, according to Nicodemus.
The woman suffered wounds in her abdomen and back and by her left ear. She received stitches at the hospital.
The suspect left the scene before police arrived. Police located him at 11:26 p.m. Tuesday in the 500 block of Vilas Street.
He was arrested for allegations of aggravated domestic battery and making a criminal threat.
Nicodemus didn't know how far along the woman's pregnancy is. The suspect apparently is the child's father.
