  • I have to admit that I am a big planner. I do not like letting holidays creep up on me. I have found by planning in advance you can save money and budget better. Although my son's birthday is in the fall, I have already started thinking about my son's birthday party.
For those who know my son, know he is obsessed with trains. So it is an easy decision that we will be hosting a train birthday party in the fall. The search has already begun for savings and I have already purchased several items.
The paper products for my son's birthday have already been purchased. During an after- Easter sale at the Leavenworth Walmart, I found basic blue plates, cups and napkins for less than $1 per package. I purchased these items in bulk so that I would be able to use them for the party.
I also am avoiding train themes that deal with television shows. We are using a generic train theme. We have found countless train clip art that can be printed from the Internet and added to our decorations, goodie bags, invitations and games for a fraction of the cost.
We also use ebay when planning his party. If you are willing to look hard you can find great things on the site for a fraction of what you can buy it for at the store. We have found train cupcake decor for under $2.
We are also planning our own games. We are making our own pin the caboose on the train from clip art I found on the Internet. We are planning other games from ideas we have found on the Internet. The best birthday party idea website is http://www.birthdaypartyideas.com/. We can plan activities from items we have at home for a fraction of the cost. We also plan to build our own piñata. Purchasing a piñata can be extremely expensive, but there are countless websites that will teach you how to make a homemade piñata for a fraction of the cost.
Finally, I am hosting the party at home. It saves me a ton of money. I have a large yard which can hold a large amount of children, and if the weather is poor I can host the party inside our garage.
Remember when planning a party, it is extremely important to plan ahead. And remember to do as much as you can by yourself. It can save you lots of money in the long run.
