In observance of Independence Day, city of Leavenworth offices will be closed July 4. Trash normally collected on Thursday will be collected on Friday.

City officials also would like to remind residents that fireworks, except for smoke balls, sparklers, snakes, champagne bottle poppers and toy paper caps, are illegal in the city of Leavenworth. Any other common fireworks, also called Class C fireworks, are considered illegal in the city. City code prohibits the selling, possession or ignition of fireworks within the city limits. The only exception to this ordinance is for public firework displays that are approved ahead of time by the city clerk and fire chief.
The city of Leavenworth would like all residents and visitors to have a safe and enjoyable Independence Day. The Fort Leavenworth public fireworks display and Salute to the Union celebration will be at dusk on July 4. Activities begin at 4 p.m. at Merritt Lake. The event is free. Food and drink vendors will be on site. A government issued photo ID is required to enter Fort Leavenworth.
