Kids show up in droves for second Late Night Under the Lights bike race

In what has become a summer tradition here in Leavenworth, another installment of the Late Night Under the Lights bike races was held Wednesday.
Blanketed by a dazzling sun and bright blue skies, over 50 participants – young and old – showed up for the free race series at Warren Middle School.
“We got a great turnout tonight,” said Brendan Sheehan, event coordinator and owner of the Santa Fe Trails Bicycle Shop. “The weather isn't too hot and everything has run smoothly so a great time so far.”
While official results were not immediately available, many could care less, especially the kids. Every racer walked away with at least a sticker and the top three bikers in each division received medals.
Following the children's races, the adults put in some competitive laps before calling it a night. Look for full results from the evening in the Times later this week.
The next Late Night Under the Lights bike races will be held on July 10 and then again on July 24. The event will be held at the same location and registration begins at 6:15 p.m. each night.
