In a final nod to the outstanding seasons the Leavenworth track teams just experienced, 14 Pioneer athletes recently received conference honors.
Last week, the Sunflower League released its postseason accolades for the 2013 track and field season. Among those selections, more than a dozen Leavenworth students were recognized following a year wherein the boys in blue took second overall at the 5A state championships and the girls placed 10th.
Hauling in the most hardware was John Warren, who was given first-team nods in the long jump and 100 hurdles as well as second team in the triple jump and 300 hurdles.
Warren earned state medals in all four of those events, including gold in the triple jump.
DaQuan Blake (shot put), Willie Morrison (discus) and Jared Belardo (long jump) were all named second team in their respective events.
Also receiving second-team honors was the LV 4x100 relay team, which consisted of De'Vante Butler, Isaiah Ross, Sanchez Williams and Josh Williamson.
Joshua Baker and Belardo were honorable mention nominations in the pole vault and triple jump, respectively.
For the Lady Pioneers, Rashayla Mathis racked up a second-team selection in the 200 meters and a honorable mention pick for the 100 meters.
Also Mathis, Rebekah Covington, Skye Childs and Daysha Thomas were all awarded first-team accolades for their part in the squad's 4x100 relay. Rachel Blackburn was named second team for the javelin.
