Three event highlights:
1. Free Movie Under the Stars will feature the screening of a movie on a 45-foot inflatable screen in Ray Miller Park. The event, which is sponsored by Navy Federal Credit Union, will be held Saturday. And as the name applies, admission is free. The movie is being screened through Special Events Network.
2. Nancy Baker, recreation supervisor for the Leavenworth Parks and Recreation Department, said pre-movie activities will begin at 6 p.m. These include face painting, inflatable bouncers and "all kinds of games for kids." There also will be music, and food vendors will be set up.
3. The movie will begin at dusk, which will be around 9 p.m. The movie will be "Here Comes the Boom," a comedy starring Kevin James that Baker described as family film. She said people can bring lawn chairs or blankets for the event. They even can bring their own picnic dinner if they choose.
Why you should attend:
"I think it's a unique event to Leavenworth, and it's free," Baker said.
