  • Two people were taken to the hospital after two vehicles collided Saturday morning south of Lansing, according to a report from the Leavenworth County Sheriff's Office.
The accident was reported at 10:58 a.m. Saturday at Fairmount Road and 147th Street.
A 44-year-old rural Leavenworth woman was driving east on Fairmount Road in a 1999 Chevrolet Malibu. A 2002 Toyota Sequoia was traveling behind the Malibu.
The driver of the Malibu attempted to make what was described as an illegal U-turn at the intersection of Fairmount and 147th, according to the report.
She pulled to the right onto 147th Street and attempted the U-turn. She apparently didn't realize a sport utility vehicle had been traveling behind her on Fairmount, or she at least didn't realize how close the vehicle was. Her car collided with the Sequoia.
The 44-year-old woman and a passenger, a 47-year-old rural Leavenworth man, were transported by Leavenworth County EMS to the University of Kansas Hospital, Kansas City, Kan., for injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening.
    No one else reported injuries.
The Sequoia was driven by a 34-year-old rural Tonganoxie woman.
Both vehicles were towed from the scene. The Malibu was considered a total loss.
