A Leavenworth man was taken to the hospital Saturday after his car struck a tree, a police spokesman said.
The accident was reported at 6:09 p.m. Saturday at Marion Street and Wilson Avenue.
The 38-year-old man was driving east on Marion Street in a 1989 Chevrolet Camaro. The car went off the roadway at the curve where Marion turns into Wilson Avenue, and the vehicle hit a tree, according to Maj. Dan Nicodemus, deputy chief of the Leavenworth Police Department.
The driver apparently hit his head on the windshield. He was transported by Leavenworth County EMS to the University of Kansas Hospital, Kansas City, Kan.
There were no passengers in the vehicle.
Nicodemus said speed is believed to have been a factor in the crash. There's no indication the driver was intoxicated.
The driver was cited for allegations of not wearing a seat belt and speeding, according to Nicodemus.
