When the administrative furlough of Department of Defense civilian employees begins July 6, many services will be affected, according to post officials.
The 11 furlough days mandated by DoD under the sequestration will be spread out over 11 weeks for most civilian employees. The furlough does not directly affect non-appropriated fund civilian employees, uniformed service members or many contractors, so NAF or contract activities and those staffed by uniformed service members will not be affected as greatly by the furlough.
On Fort Leavenworth, many activities and services will close or have reduced operations on Fridays during the furlough.
One of the most notable changes created by the furlough is the closure of Hancock Gate from July 6 to Sept. 30. Grant Gate will remain open 24 hours. A decision on Sherman Gate is pending.
Because they are primarily staffed by NAF employees, most Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation businesses and activities will conduct business as usual. All three child development centers, Strike Zone Bowling Center, Trails West Golf Course, Stables and Brunner Skeet Range will all continue regular hours.
Army Community Service will also be closed on Fridays, but emergency situations will be referred to appropriate off-post resources.
Munson Army Health Center will offer limited services on Fridays during the furlough. Appointments will be accepted for Primary Care (Family Medicine, Internal Medicine and Pediatrics), Orthopedics and Physical Therapy. The Pharmacy,
Laboratory and Radiology will be open to patients with Primary Care appointments, but long wait times should be expected.
Behavioral Health and the TRICARE Service Center will be open normal hours. All other services will be closed.
Smith Dental Clinic will also be limited to military staffing on Fridays. Services will be limited to exams, cleanings and sick call.
Veterinary Services expects to return to normal business hours after completing its move to a new location in mid-July.
Army and Air Force Exchange Service stores and concessions, including the Post Exchange, Food Court, Express/Class Six, Pony Express and concessions in the Lewis and Clark Center are not affected by the furlough and will maintain normal hours.
The Fort Leavenworth Commissary will be closed on Mondays during the furlough, per Defense Commissary Agency instructions to its stores worldwide.
The Office of the Staff Judge Advocate will have only military staffing Fridays. No fiscal, labor or contract attorneys will be available on Fridays, and the Claims and Legal Assistance offices will be closed. Trial Defense Service will be open.
The post chapels and Religious Services Office will have only military staffing Fridays.
The Combined Arms Research Library and the Defense Military Pay Office will be closed Fridays.
The USDB Store, IHG Army Hotels Hoge Barracks and the Frontier Army Museum will continue their current business hours.
Page 2 of 2 - Most other Garrison offices not specifically mentioned above will be closed Fridays. These include, but are not limited to, the Army Education Center, the Army Career and Alumni Program, Army Substance Abuse Program, Adjutant General Office and Mail Room, Sherman Army Airfield operations, Kinder Range and the EST 2000, the Directorate of Public Works, the Directorate of Resource Management, and the Equal Employment Opportunity, Public Affairs and Safety offices.
A complete list of activities and closures caused by the furlough can be found on the Garrison website at http:// garrison.leavenworth.army .mil/Services.aspx.
Any changes will be updated on the Garrison website and published in the Fort Leavenworth Lamp.
