Following a rollover accident near Leavenworth, a passenger was arrested for allegedly trying to strike a deputy who was investigating the crash, according to Sheriff's Office officials.
The accident was reported shortly after 2 a.m. Sunday west of Leavenworth on Mt. Olivet Road.
A 2009 Pontiac G6 had been traveling west. It went off the road and overturned, according to a report from the Sheriff's Office.
Undersheriff Jim Sherley said several people left the scene and authorities had to determine where they went. The undersheriff said a 25-year-old Leavenworth man who had been a passenger in the car "just didn't want to cooperate with the investigation."
Authorities spoke with the man at a residence on Mt. Olivet Road near the scene of the accident.
The man allegedly became combative. He was arrested for allegations of obstruction and assault on a law enforcement office. He was transported to Cushing Memorial Hospital to be treated for injuries he suffered in the car accident. He then was take to the Leavenworth County Jail, according to the Sheriff's Office report.
The 26-year-old Leavenworth woman who had been driving the car and one of her passengers, a 23-year-old man, were transported by private vehicle to St. Luke's Hospital, Kansas City, Mo., to be treated for injuries they suffered in the accident. Another passenger, a 25-year-old woman, was taken to the University of Kansas Hospital, Kansas City, Kan., by Leavenworth County EMS, according to the report.
