  • A Leavenworth man was taken to the hospital after he apparently was in a vehicle accident Sunday evening near Easton, according to information from the Leavenworth County Sheriff's Office.
The incident was reported at 6:19 p.m. Sunday. It occurred on 231st Street south of Millwood Road. The 36-year-old man was seen sitting by the side of the road. He told a passerby he needed medical attention, according to the Sheriff's Office.
The man appeared to have injuries to his face and possibly a broken right arm.
As the result of a preliminary investigation, authorities believe a 2003 Ford Ranger registered in the man's name overturned while it was traveling south on 231st Street.
The man, who's is believed to have been under the influence of alcohol, told authorities he had not been driving the vehicle. The man provided a description of the driver, a person he'd only recently met. The driver was said to have left with other people who took the truck from the scene, according to the Sheriff's Office.
Authorities were unable to locate the person described as the driver.
A witness reported seeing a third person towing the pickup truck south from where the injured man was found.
The truck was found abandoned and disabled on another street. Open containers of alcohol were found in the vehicle.
The injured man was transported by Leavenworth County EMS to the University of Kansas Hospital, Kansas City, Kan., according to the Sheriff's Office.
