With temperatures in the 90s, it may seem like the wrong time of year to see Salvation Army bell ringers in front of local stores.

With temperatures in the 90s, it may seem like the wrong time of year to see Salvation Army bell ringers in front of local stores. But bell ringers are collecting donations through Saturday as part of The Salvation Army's Christmas in July program.

Capt. Rick Hamelund with The Salvation Army said this is the second year for the Christmas in July red kettle event. He said the kettles will be set up from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. each day through Saturday at the Dillons, Kmart and Country Mart stores in Leavenworth and the Petro Deli in Lansing. Hamelund said the money raised will be used to help people needing utility assistance this summer.
