A wood fire next to a Leavenworth home resulted in an estimated $6,000 worth of damage, a Fire Department spokesman said.
The fire was reported at 5:07 p.m. Thursday at 1914 High Drive. A pile of wood next to the house caught fire. No injuries were reported.
"No one was home at the time," said Leavenworth Fire Department spokesman Mark DeMaranville.
He was not sure who reported the fire. When firefighters arrived, there was a man at the scene who was trying to put out the fire with a garden hose.
DeMaranville said the fire melted garage door windows and damaged siding and paint on the house.
He said another pile of wood stacked against a retaining wall also was starting to burn.
Firefighters extinguished the fire within minutes of their arrival.
The cause of the fire has not been determined.
