People going to enrollment for the Leavenworth public schools next week may find a carnival atmosphere when they arrive.
That's because the district is hosting an event called Pioneer Palooza that will coincide with enrollment Wednesday at Leavenworth High School.
"We're trying to give them a family fun event to kick start the school year," said Austin Wells, one of the public relations interns helping to organize the event.
He said Pioneer Palooza will feature an activities fair from 2 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at the high school's west parking lot. And then from 7 to 9:30 p.m., there will be a variety show featuring local bands and other performances. The events are free.
Leavenworth High School, 2012 10th Ave., will be the enrollment location for all children in kindergarten through the 12th grade who are enrolling in the district.
Children in kindergarten through the eighth grade can be enrolled between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday. Enrollment for high school students will be from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday.
Wells said organizers decided to have the Pioneer Palooza on Wednesday because students from all grades can be enrolled that day.
He said the activities fair will include an inflatable obstacle course and bounce house and slide.
"We have a dunk tank," he said, and a photo booth.
He said various school organizations will be represented at Pioneer Palooza, and many of them will be offering activities. For example, a high school drama club will be offering face painting.
Free refreshments, including hot dogs, also will be served.
