  • Two people were taken to the hospital after a vehicle collision Monday in north Leavenworth, a police spokesman said.
The accident was reported at 4:42 p.m. Monday at 10th and Pottawatomie streets.
A 38-year-old Leavenworth man was driving east on Pottawatomie Street in a 1999 GMC Sierra pickup truck. He stopped at a stop sign at the 10th Street intersection. But he then proceeded into the intersection while allegedly failing to yield to a southbound 2013 Dodge Avenger, according to Maj. Dan Nicodemus, deputy chief of the Leavenworth Police Department.
The two vehicles collided. A 28-year-old man, who was a front-seat passenger in the Dodge Avenger, was transported to the hospital by Leavenworth County EMS for what were described as minor injuries.
A 4-year-old boy, who was a passenger in the back seat of the Dodge, complained of back pain. He also was transported to the hospital, according to Nicodemus.
The driver of the GMC pickup was cited by police for an allegation of failing to yield.
The Dodge Avenger's driver, a 27-year-old Leavenworth woman, was cited for an allegation of having no proof of insurance.
